First Steps

The goal in creating each of my sculptures is to
thoroughly enjoy the process while creating something
others will take pleasure in as well.

I have lived in the Pacific Northwest my entire life and
have always found it to be an inspiration and influence in
my art. I’ve worked in many mediums but have always
returned to clay. There is something magical in the
permanence of clay. The way it comes from the earth as
a soft and pliable substance but once fired will retain its
shape for centuries.

Each of the sculptures I create are hand-built then carved,
cast, stretched, combined and/or hammered. I use
several different methods for completion including: glaze,
stain, acrylic paint, gold luster, copper leaf and more. The
salmon are created from my original sculpture then Raku
fired to create the variety of color and patinas.

My studio on Fox Island is open by appointment.
